When there is a conflict about what is the “right” thing to do normally then there is an ethical problem that arises. Generally when decisions need to be made whether or not the intervention is futile and whether or not the medical intervention should be implemented, then this dilemma normally occurs.

Whenever there is a question that is an ethical question, then the answer to that question is not straightforward/simple. The answer includes a difficult mixture of data which is evidence-based data, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. And to take these types of decisions ageism plays a very important role. In the older adult’s age, there is a lack of mental flexibility because of this they argue mostly when they come in that age. It impedes their ability to benefit from psychotherapy. But, over the last three decades, many studies showed the existence of negative attitudes towards older adults among psychotherapists. Psychologists described the older persons as being rigid and having difficulties to acquire new stuff, and lack of energy.
