    Series-Parallel Circuits

___________________________________________________________________

Objective: To investigate the properties of series-parallel circuits

Components Required:

3 x 1-kΩ resistor

1 x breadboard

Procedure:

Build a series-parallel circuit with Vs = 6.0 V and three 1-kΩ resistors where R1 is in series with R2 // R3

Connect the negative terminal of the supply to the Earth ground

Use the worksheet provided below to calculate the theoretical circuit voltages and currents

Measure the circuit parameters and calculate the percent errors

Worksheet

Calculations based on nominal component values:

RT = _________ IT = _________

Vs = __________VR1 = _________ VR2 = _________VR3 = _________

V1 = __________ V2 = _________ V3 = _________VG = __________

Measurements:

R1 = _________ R2 = _________ R3 = _________ RT = _________

Vs = __________VR1 = _________ VR2 = _________VR3 = _________

V1 = __________ V2 = _________ V3 = _________VG = _________

IT = _________ (based on the measured VR1 and R1)

IR1 = _________ (based on the measured on VR1 & R1)

IR2 = _________ (based on the measured VR2 & R2)

IR3 = _________ (based on the measured VR3 & R3)

Was IT  or IR1 equal to IR2 + IR3 and why or why not?

Insert the diagram of your actual breadboard with all the connected components on it as well as a picture showing ALL your calculations here:

Conclusions

For each parameter, find the percent difference between the calculated and measured values:

Formula to use:

Do ALL your calculations on the next page:

RT: ________% IT: ________%

Vs: ______% VR1: _____% VR2: _____% VR3: ____%

V1: ______% V2: _____% V3 : _____% VG: _____%

Which ones of the above figures were out of the ± 5% tolerance limits?
