PROGRAM DESIGN

MODULE 1 GROUP ASSIGNMENT: PROGRAM DESIGN

Part I:

Work in groups to develop a design for a program and share your design on the discussion board. Your final product should be no more than one page and list your group name and the names of all group members. Consider the following as you design your program:

For my choice of organization I would like to choose Placer County foodbank - https://placerfoodbank.org/ They are lacking resources/volunteers due to the social distancing guidelines from the pandemic.

Components of effective program design include:

  • needs assessment
  • goals and objectives
  • program activities

A needs assessment can be conducted for a community or other organization to determine unmet needs or lack of resources. Kettner, et al. (2013) identify four steps in program design:

1.     Formulation of a policy framework expressed in goals and objectives.

2.     Selection and implementation of a particular intervention or program.

3.     Calculation of resources needed to implement the program.

4.     Management of monitoring, evaluation, and feedback procedures.

Planning emphasizes organizational survival and program maintenance. Your program design must identify a problem to be addressed and describe activities that will be used to achieve goals and objectives of the program. Sufficient detail must be provided by the designers so evaluators can develop an evaluation plan.

Note: A logic model will be developed for each design in Module 2.

Part II:

AFTER you post your design, evaluate another group's program design and post any questions you have for them.

Here are the group assignments for review:
  • Group 1 – review Group 2’s design
  • Group 2 – review Group 3’s design
  • Group 3 – review Group 4’s design
  • And so on.

Because the total number of groups might be more or fewer than this, the group that is last in line should evaluate Group 1’s design. For instance, if there are 3 groups total in the class, Group 3 will review Group 1’s design. If there are 5 groups, Group 5 will evaluate Group 1’s design. In this manner, every group will evaluate and be evaluated by a different group.

Return to the discussion board frequently to respond to any questions on your group’s design.

A Word About Group Evaluation
Depending on the number of groups, the first group will evaluate the second, the second group will evaluate the third, and so on.  The last group in the line will evaluate the first group.
