After reading chapter 12, I decided to focus my attention on Reid and his philosophical ideas. Reid sees modern philosophy declining more and more each day. He begins by arguing with Descartes, stating that one cannot doubt or disbelieve his or her own existence. Similar to Descartes, Locke stated that we maintain our personal identities through remembrance and memories. Again, Reid argues with this notion and says this means that every time one forgets something in their memory, he or she loses his or her personal identity.
