Lab Scenario:
Large Enterprise networks often use VLANs for separating data, voice and business applications. Large number of APs, switches and VLANs create complexity of device, client and security management. The network design separates client access equipment and network management equipment by bringing the VLANs into one logical Layer 3 network. Layer 3 routers are used to provide both inter-VLAN routing and DHCP for multiple VLANs. When the APs are on a different subnet than the WLCs, the APs have to be configured with Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points (CAPWAP) connection. The CAPWAP can be auto-configured using DHCP option 43. This scenario design is requesting a separate management LAN for Wireless Controllers so the option 43 must be used for AP subnet. The access router uses a trunk interface for DHCP for all VLANs as well as Layer 3 separation of the Management LAN.
