Description

Suppose that you are interested in finding out public opinion about a project to expand the Trans Mountain Pipeline. The Trans Mountain Pipeline is also known as the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline System. The Trans Mountain Pipeline carries crude and refined oil from Alberta to the west coast of British Columbia and it has been in use since 1953. The expansion project is to build a second pipeline parallel to the existing one. As a researcher, you want to find out people’s opinion and to explain their difference of opinion.

Complete the following steps:

1. Measure (also known as quantify) the variable of “opinion about expansion project of Trans Mountain Pipeline”.

2. LIST at least three variables that you think affect one’s opinion on this matter and MEASURE each one of them.

3. Identify the level of measurement for the four variables mentioned in Step 1and 2, and make sure that there is at least one interval variable.

4. What is the unit of analysis for this study?

5. Explain your dependent and independent variables based on the previous steps.

6. Raise a research question for this study.

7. Use one of the variables above as an example to explain what frequency distribution is. (Note: the data used for Step 7 can be made up.)
