Description

Introduction

The purpose of this assignment is to study losses, reactive power consumption and voltage drops in wind farm components using approximate calculations as well as power flow. The assignment is divided into the following four tasks:

1. Select cables for a given wind farm setup.

2. Calculate approximate values for losses and reactive power consumption in one of the collection system cables.

3. Calculate approximate values for voltage drop over one of the wind turbine transformers.

4. Perform a power flow for the wind farm and compare the results of the approximate calculations of losses in task 2 and voltage drops in task 3 to the power flow results.

The single line diagram for the wind farm is shown below. It consists of five 4 MW wind turbines. The nominal voltage is 0.69 kV on the low voltage side of the wind turbine transformers and 20 kV on the high voltage side. Each of the eight cables L1-L5 in the power collection system are 800 m long. The wind farm is connected to the public grid in the 20kV point of connection (POC).
