The waste polythene makes a huge environment and social
problem in Sri Lanka. The amount of waste polythene is being increasing day by
day by complicating the environment and social issues. Finding out the most
suitable solution for this would be a vital requirement for a long time. Therefore,
this research focus to investigate the possibilities to convert this waste
polythene as a sustainable construction material with a combination of readily available
coir fiber.
The composite sheet was made by varying coir fiber amounts
with suitable polymer matrix (waste polythene) by means hand layer up technics
using a hot press machine (FMABELSTAR-TJ-219). Further, if this material could
be developed to achieve the required properties, it can be used as a sustainable
building material in our construction industry. Besides, this will be a golden
solution for the environment and social problem created due to polythene waste.
