COURSE OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES

This case-based course considers the social and ethical responsibilities of management at both the individual and organizational levels. Issues considered include managers’ obligations to their organizations and to individuals within those organizations, and organizations’ responsibilities to a variety of stakeholders in the broader society.

The following concepts of business ethics are planned to be covered in this course:

  • The development of business ethics and its importance for various organizations;
  • Effects of various stakeholders on business ethics, including the concepts of social responsibility and corporate governance;
  • Ongoing business ethics issues such as conflicts of interest, bribery, and fraud;
  • Regulatory and legal compliance issues, such as Sarbanes-Oxley legislation;
  • Ethical decision making frameworks;
  • Roles of ethical philosophies and values in business ethics;
  • Business ethics and its relationship to organizational culture;
  • Factors in developing an effective ethics program;
