Assignment One — Movie Watching Reflection (20%)
Your job is to apply the theories from Chapter 7 to an analysis of your own experiences of selectivity and gratifications.
Write about any single feature-length film that you watched this semester.
You can briefly explain what the movie was about, but focus on addressing the following audience-
related questions:
-Who chose to watch the movie?
-What factors guided the choice?
-What goals were you trying to achieve?
-What mood were you trying to manage?
-What was your level of attention?
-Did you skip certain parts?
-Did you multitask?
-What did you enjoy most and least about the movie?
-Were you happy about how you spent the overall period of time?
. Some of these questions might lead you to reflect on related movie-watching experiences.
. This assignment connects most closely to Chapter 7, “Audience Theories: Uses & Reception,” pp.
