1. Content Audit — Deliverable: Excel file
Li In this assignment you will perform a content audit for a small to medium sized website of
your choosing using a “web spider” application, and create a list of the URLs that define its
structures to a depth of 3 levels in the website’s hierarchy (if the website is not hierarchical
you will still need to generate the list 3 levels from the home page).
Note: I will demonstrate the basics of using a “web spider” application in order to generate a
list of pages contained within a website using a trial version of “Screaming Frog” (You will
download the trial version for this assignment (Windows and Mac compatible). The web
spider application (among many other things useful to webmasters and designers) generates
a list of the pages within the site.
Li Copy the list that the web spider application generates (internal pages only) and copy and
paste them into a new Excel file that you’ve set up. Excel is an application within the
Microsoft Office family of applications and is freely available through SLC and on the lab
computers.
E In the Excel file, list the URIS associated with each page and indicate whether the pages are
first, second or third level etc. in the second column to the right of the first URL column.
E In the third column of your document, label what each of these links/pages do using your
own terminology to describe.
