In many states, “first-degree murder” is characterized as an unlawful murdering that is both persistent and planned, implying that it was conferred in the wake of arranging or “lying in hold up” for the casualty. “Second-degree murder” is characterized in the Code as all murders that are not first-degree but rather where the killing was still deliberate.
