Description of the Business and the System

For our project, the Group for Technical Assistance (GTA) Study Team at Henry Ford Health Systems has graciously agreed to collaborate with us. Henry Ford Health Systems, is a non-profit healthcare provider based in Michigan, USA. It has been serving the community through its various hospitals and medical centers since 1915. Along with providing healthcare locally, Henry Ford Health Systems has also contributed to research and philanthropy projects overseas such as the one we will be analysing for this project.

Over the last few decades, there has been an increase in Antimicrobial Resistance (NCBI), especially in low and middle-income countries. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is the ability of a microbe to resist the effects of medication that once could successfully treat the microbe. To combat this growing epidemic, the GTA study team has proposed the development of a Global Learning in Antimicrobial Resistance (GLAMR) Platform.

The long-term vision of the GLAMR Platform is for it to be a web-based e-learning site that health practitioners across the globe can use to learn, discuss, and mentor each other on practices to reduce antimicrobial resistance. To start however, this platform will be used to support e-learning in AMR and stewardship in Nepal, with the potential for future expansion to other low- and middle-income countries. Since 2015, the GTA study team has been working in Nepal to train healthcare professionals in AMR and to develop an education model that can easily be incorporated in healthcare centers with limited resources. The training material developed by the study team in Nepal will serve as a springboard for the GLAMR Platform. There are a few characteristics for the GLAMR platform that have been outlined by the project sponsor. Their vision includes a platform that is contextual, capacity building and consultative. The aim is to have healthcare professionals collaborate with each other through high volumes of interaction where students and healthcare professionals can connect with peers in their respective fields and share knowledge and information through rich channels of communication.
