Overview: Social movements are large, sometimes informal, groupings of individuals or organizations which focus on a specific political or social issue. In this past year alone we have seen an unprecedented number of social movements garner mass media attention. From #blacklivesmatter, marriage equality, campus racial inequality, climate change, to heated arguments concerning gender equality and gun control, to name only a few, people have come together to argue for a “more perfect union” in the press and on social media.
