Human Resourse management.
Geert Hofstede’s 6 dimensions of culture should be researched. Hofstede relates the 6 dimensions to cultural characteristics in countries around the world. Initially Hofstede had 4 dimensions and the fifth was added later. Recently a sixth was also added.
Each dimension has either a high, low or medium score for each country, a "high" score usually indicates a more autocratic management style, whereas a "low" score is indicative of a more participative management style.
This assignment is to analyse your own Canadian organization with respect to 2-3 of the 6 dimensions of culture. If you're not currently employed you may want to use a former organization for which you worked. If you have never worked for an organization, you may just outline the practices that seem to be the best work environment to suit your own personal management style, based on the feedback from the Hofstede Insights Country Culture Survey report.
In your analysis please describe the management style that is most indicative of your organization’s culture and describe the actual practices that are carried out with respect to 2-3 of the 6 dimensions of culture. You have the opportunity to either concur with the approach your organization takes or suggest what you feel would be a better management practice, with some rationale for it.
You should define all six dimensions, and then indicate why you chose the 2-3 you selected. You can also make reference to Hofstede's Canadian profile as a comparison to your organization, or if your experience is from another country, use that country's profile for comparison.
The assignment is meant to give you some useful, practical insight into thinking about culture, and, ideally, your preferences as well.
The assignment should not exceed six pages, as this is an assignment, not a term paper.
