Description

FINAL PROJECT GUIDELINE

Your final presentation is the culmination of your work in this class and should display comprehensive learning of the following:

  • Data visualization principles and best practices
  • Visual data exploration and analysis practices and best principles
  • Design principles and best practices
  • Visual data storytelling

 You will deliver three things:

  1. A final Pitch paper (Word document)
  2. A final Tableau workbook (.twbx) that contains your data, all related charts, and graphs with analysis/transformation
  3. A 10- 20-minutes video presentation of your Tableau Story that fully explores your topic and your data within. You need to submit a video file (mp4, or m4v, or avi, etc.) Also, you can upload your video to YouTube and submit a link instead.

Your presentation should include:

  • Detailed discussion on your topic/research questions.
  • Your data, and any transformation (calculations, etc.) you performed as well as join.
  • Your analysis and your findings.
  • Well formatted visualizations/dashboards that display your findings.
  • A well-crafted visual data narrative that supports your story.

Part 1: Pitch Paper

Mini-Exploratory Data Analysis:

The task in this project is to use Tableau to form the basis of your pitch presentation by answering specific questions related to COVID-19 Pandemic. After answering these questions, you should create a final visualization designed to present the “pitch” to others and invite further exploration and analysis of the data.

You should maintain a digital notebook (in a Word document) that documents the questions you asked and the steps you performed from start to finish. The goal of this project is to understand better the process of using visualizations to perform exploratory data analysis and to form a basis for your pitch presentation.

Step 1. Pick a domain from the COVID-19 data set that you are interested in (this is your pitch topic)

Peruse the Internet to find information that supports your pitch topic. This analysis is preliminary; you only need to find information that can be visualized to persuade your audience this is a topic worth exploring
