For this module, I have several kick-off discussion questions. You are NOT required to answer every question below. It is perfectly okay to identify a few questions and engage in depth in the discussion thread for the week. Your engagement grade is based on the quality of your contributions and not whether you answer all questions.

In addition to these questions, you are encouraged to add other questions, provide links to new content that you feel helps you understand the course material, and/ or bring in current events that are relevant to the module topic. Just make sure you explain how it connects and provide the reference link!

  • Pick an example of security education, training, and awareness that you have experienced directly. What could have been improved? Why do you believe this experience was effective or ineffective? NOTE: If you do not want to use your own personal example, feel free to use UAB's phishing training video.

  • Go to the UAB IT policy database and identify a policy of interest (http://www.uab.edu/it/home/it-related-policies (Links to an external site.)). Review the policy for its strengths and weaknesses. What do you recommend to improve the policy?
  • Identify a critical set of security personnel for managing an organization's infrastructure. Who are they and what should they each be responsible for in protecting an organization's infrastructure?
  • What are the challenges to conducting log or event management analysis? What has been done more recently with machine learning and artificial intelligence to support security professionals?
